Would not recommend unless your solar panel can be in a place where it gets sun all day every day. We tried a couple different times to get this to work but within a day or so, the battery would be dead and the door wouldn’t function.

Easy to set up and works great! Even with a week of rain, the battery held its charge. When there was a faulty battery, the company helped us troubleshoot and sent out an immediate replacement part. Great customer service and quality products!

I’ve had my auto door and solar charger for two years now, and they are AWESOME. Total game-changer. Easy to set up and program, and reliable even in cloudy weather. Early on I had the same trouble as Katy, so I called the company and they were super helpful – turns out the battery had run down in shipping and had to be charged fully (on a charger) before the solar panel could do its thing. Haven’t had an issue since. Love this thing.

I have the original door with the 4 AA batteries. About 5 years now. It stopped working and I opened it up to find a bad wire from the battery holder to the circuit board. Soldered new wires on it and like new again. Check yours out Belinda maybe same problem.

    Help !

The solar charger worked for 8 weeks, but now it will not hold a charge.

I have plugged the system in with AC power, but “no joy”. The solar power charger will not hold a charge.

Contacted the company – no response .

    Please help!

So far our unit has been working well but dark winter in northeast Ohio just around the corner and I need to know how to recharge the solar battery in case voltage drops below 11. Have emailed and called several times and no answer/reply. We have no power in the coop – would it be safe to plug an external generator (600W 120V-60Hz) to the battery to charge it? (I am not an electrical wiz). We did not receive any specs/literature for this latest model, did anyone else get anything? I would give 4-5 star rating if someone would answer my email or return my calls because the unit is working great so far. As it is, I must give a 3 but will revise if someone helps me. This has been frustrating and time consuming.

I’ve been using the Smart Pet auto door for years now, it’s a great product. Since I work most evenings and can’t be home to lock up my flock it is a necessary component where I live to keep the chickens safe from Raccoons, bobcats, and foxes.
I just added this solar package last week and it works great. I plugged the battery into the solar panel, which I mounted to the roof of my coop, and let it charge up for a couple of days just to be safe, even though it indicated being charged when I installed it. The charge has not dipped below green/full charge since I plugged it in, so it has plenty of juice to operate the door and clock/timer. The installation directions are simple and minimal. I called the company with a few questions, no one answered so I left a message, and received a call back with the info I needed within a few hours.
